412 – Yarmouth RNLI at the Needles

This was sketched on location on an incredibly windy day, it is always windy at the Needles but I don’t think I have ever seen the waves quite so frothy. I usually like to show the round the island yacht race at the Needles but decided to paint it with the seagulls ruling and the lifeboat crew on their way to rescue a yacht in trouble. I’m particularly pleased with the lines of froth between the waves on this one and had to use some white gouache over the watercolours to achieve the effect.
